Meet the Brand
Since 1982, we’ve been champions of quality and craftmanship. Our toys won’t fall apart after a few rolls, tumbles and tugs like products from the big box stores. And we only use the finest ingredients in our toys – catnip made from mouthwatering aromatic buds and leaves.
After the first pounce on one of our catnip pillows, your cat will be meowing for more. But don’t take our word for it! We offer a free catnip toy sample to those who haven’t yet tried our brand – just pay the shipping.
And for cats who don’t like catnip toys, we have fur mice, felted wool balls and teasers in fleece, feather and braided cotton.
In 1982, the original owner’s cat, Mr. Pussums, was mistakenly introduced as Dr. Pussums. The rest is history! Since then, our company has rescued and cared for several other furry friends. We are a support for PALS No-Kill Cat Shelter, providing a safe and loving home for hospice kitties until they live out their natural lives.
Butternut Squash will likely greet you at the door (watch out, he’s a lady killer!) You’ll find Bennett and Newton napping in the sun near the cash register.
Hi, I’m Susan Shaw, owner of Dr. Pussums Cat Company
We are a small family-owned business in Maine that has been providing superior quality catnip toys to finicky felines for more than 40 years.
Like the original owners, our family strives to provide a superior line of cat toys, meaningful employment to our crafters, and socially responsible leadership in our community.
As a child, I LOVED everything furry but was not able to have a furry pet. When my family purchased Dr. Pussums in 2010, I knew it was meant to be! It didn’t take long for me to become the crazy cat lady I am today!
I am involved in the day-to-day operations of the business. You can find me in our local store cutting fabric, packaging toys and shipping to our retail and wholesale customers. Stop by and see me anytime.
