Perfectly imperfect and unique macrame
Astilbe + May began as a creative outlet after I gave birth to my first daughter and grew into this wonderful business where I get to create handmade art for people all over the world.
After graduating from design school in San Francisco California, I began my professional career in visual merchandising and design. After falling in love and starting a family I decided I didn't want to be anywhere but right at home with my babies. I was so fortunate to have a husband who worked extra shifts at work to allow me to do that. But I couldn't stop the creative part of my brain and entrepreneurial spirit and that is when Astilbe + May was born. I taught myself the basics and worked on my craft at all hours of the night while my newborn daughter slept. After selling a couple pieces to friends and family I was encouraged to open my Etsy shop. The first piece I ever sold was my American Flag and I haven't looked back since.
Over the years my style has evolved and I became extremely passionate about creating pieces that have never been done before. There are so many amazing and talented artists doing this craft that has been around for longer than any of us have been alive so this was an undertaking, but one I was excited to do.
From naturally shed elk and deer antlers that are found in nature, to vintage farming tools that are pulled from an abandoned barn you will find all sorts of mediums and textures in my work. I love the challenge of creating on a new and unique vessel for every piece. This truly means it is one of a kind and each person that buys a piece gets to say they are the only one in the entire world with that exact piece.
I am thrilled and excited to have you here on my page, I hope you take a look around and enjoy what you see. I am always open to custom work and if you see a vintage piece that has sold, send me a message and we can work together to source a new piece that will be perfect for your beautiful home or space.
